Was testing in-band registration with captcha (mod_captcha_registration) and created a user "test@dan.chokola.com". Cannot delete this user with prosodyctl:
dan@gunter:~$ sudo prosodyctl deluser "test@dan.chokola.com"
Error: Nil
dan@gunter:~$ sudo prosodyctl passwd "test@dan.chokola.com"
Enter new password:
Retype new password:
Error: Creating user failed
dan@gunter:~$ sudo prosodyctl adduser "test@dan.chokola.com"
That user already exists

Can you say what version of Prosody you have, and what authentication module you are using for the host "dan.chokola.com"?
