Couldn't you make it compatible with the latest 0.9 branch?
This would make it possible to use it with the official Debian stable packages of prosody.

mod_mam has been compatible with 0.9 for some time, but requires a storage module that supports archives. It has also included an in-memory storage module as a fallback for some time now, so should Just Work with 0.9.
As for status, I have some commits lined up but I'm still waiting for the new XEP version. Also not sure whether to change store name away from "archive2" to something better.
